Every method i try includes a locking to some reference plane - thus i always get a constrains not satisfied error message when changing family type.

I've been given here before an advice to use nested model text inside the family. Is it possible to align the text to the middle (vertically and horizontally) without nesting the model text?

It has to do with the "font". The only solution I can think of is to create the Text in a separate family and nest it.

Create a model group from the model text and a ref plane or ref line as the centerline and constrain the model group.

That ain't going to work either. This is crazy weird behaving text -- in more ways than one.  I give up.

I can constrain horizontally but not vertically.

i done it successfully with other family i just can't get it why i'm failing with this one.

they are both attached.

For some reason IT IS possible to constrain the text to a reference plane *only to the bottom line of the text* not ideal but i can live if that. (i make an additional reference plane to the text which is below the reference plane of the sign to make the text looked like it's aligned to the middle)

Then again it's not possible to constrain the reference plan of the text to the reference plane of the sign.

About the model group: it gives me the error message as soon as i change  family type. with or without the model text and the reference plane grouped.

To make the group work, you need another "trick", hosting the ModelText onto a reference line.

  • Draw a horizontal and a vertical reference line.
  • Set the workplane to the horizontal reference line ( using Pick a Plane )
  • Place the ModelText and align (do not lock )
  • Group the ModelText and the reference lines.
  • Dimension the reference lines

Worked!

The more i get advises from you all, about family editing, the more i fill i don't understand the logic of revit. things seems so random and unexplained to me.

Back when i was just building architectural models, revit seemed very logical and reasonable.

This trick you noted worked perfectly in one family and work partly on another family which is almost the same: the text is a bit off-reference-line on some types.

but it's a BIG progress for me.

@danezeq: Do me a favor and post your family after you fix 'er up using @FAIR59's suggestion. I just want to see it. I don't want to have to build it.

Thx.
