Transparency in elevations and sections

I recently saw a post about transparency in sections for some families. But in my case, I need to be able to see that glass transparency in almost all my elevations and sections. I know in 3d I can see it through, but that I don’t need.

The glass shows as a non-transparent material. I have been trying with visibility graphics changing all settings, also with overriding element and material , also trying with materials and with other options.

But so far, I can only make transparent the entire window (the glass and the frame). So this is not an option.

I even found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMlZrnn2guM showing how to do it. But it is not working for me in Revit 2020, maybe was working in 2017.

How can I make ONLY the glass transparent?

Thanks.

… hi @Anonymous

… well... as far as I know you can’t

BUT

… here’s a turnaround I’ve been using that can be helpful

… this will overwrite some settings (you can go back and forth when needed)

… and the windows will look like frames with no glass

… for some views that is acceptable

… the thing is that the glass could be totally opaque …. or no glass at all

… but ....no …. like 50% transparency

… could be a little annoying to have this, but it’s an option…

… go to your elevation view

Screenshot (71).png

… edit your window family

Screenshot (72).png

… grab the entire family and filter it

… choose only opening cut

Screenshot (73).png

… and then without closing or modifying it

…. check elevations as well

Screenshot (74).png

…. now grab just the glass in the family (tab or in 3d)

… in properties…. subcategory … you can choose openings

Screenshot (75).png

…. and select void as well

Screenshot (76).png

… load the modified family back to project

… and overwrite the existing version

Screenshot (77).png

... and you will have "transparent" windows in elevations and sections

Screenshot (79).png

… at the end you will need to have the two windows (the modified and the original ) and interchange those as needed

... or just one and modify it back and forth... but it is faster having two.. or three... or more depending on the amount of different windows...

Thank you, this is probably going to work for now. I will be waiting for any other option.

You could turn off Glass subcategory. That is based on the assumption that you created the glass under that subcategory in the window family.

Thank you, no I don't have glass as a subcategory. I have been trying the previous post and it is ok. Not the way I expected but at least is working the way I need it. For now.

The glass should be transparent. No matter where, because the glass is TRANSPARENT!!

I have found a the best way to achieve this is to add a material shared paramater to the window glass panel> add the same shared parameter to the model > create a filter picking up that shared parameter> setting up the desired tranparency via the filter. This allows the glass to be semi transparent rather than turned off altogether, which I find creates its own issues!

Long winded but does the trick!
