Hi, can you please show how to create a filter to an elevation view that should show dotted all foundation walls and footings.

Basically there are two parts to creating / using Filters:-

1) Create (ie Define) the Filter. This where you define the criteria that will trigger the Filter. It is generally where you are looking for a specific parameter value in a specific Category. When this meets the criteria, the Filter is active

2) Define the Graphics / Visibility Overrides that you wish to take place in that specific view- WHEN the Filter is active. This is where you set a dashed linestyle for your Foundation Walls, when see in elevation.

Normally you show the silhouette outline of the underground structural as hidden lines behind the topo.  If that what you want to do then there is no need to use Filter.

Right, but when topography is on it doesn't let me see the foundation.

- Temporary hide the topo or change it to transparent

- Use Linework tool to override the below grade lines to Hidden

- Restore the topo

What about just using the Show Hidden Lines Tool? 

...or Graphic Override by Element? Foundation walls' projection lines=dashed, Topo=100% transparent.

Thanks, i think in my case which i have a lot of foundation walls and different levels it would be easier just to filter that foundation wall should show dotted.

Can you show how to do it.

Pick a parameter that distinguishes the ones you need to filter from the rest, whether it is Type name, Level, etc... Then create a filter assigned to the category with the parameter as the criteria and add it to the view. Highlight that filter under filter tab and you can override its graphics how you want. Often you need more than one filters to get what you want.

Your foundation walls should be of a particular type - select that under Type Name. Once this is done, apply the filter to the group, and override Lines to whatever color and pattern you need.

@tpreisler: Have you even tried what I suggested: Show Hidden Lines? This sounds like a perfect application for it. You want to see elements below ground displayed with hidden lines; right?

Thanks Mr. BarthBradley did try it but it's to much work the filters works better in my case.
