Family with void extrusion removed still cutting beam

Hello,

I am working on a project that has L-Beams where I need to make revisions to the end bearing condition. I have a family that I created for 2" diameter sleeves and I deleted the sleeves however the beam is still being cut as if the sleeve is still there that I'm trying to work towards solving.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

You probably deleted the sleeve but the opening left behind is a different cut/family

Thank you. This could be the case and if so I am not sure how to get the cut family removed from the beam. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

  1. Hover mouse over the cut edge and try to tab select the cut/opening
  2. Or Try "Uncut Geometry" >> select beam then hover over cut edge...
  3. Or if that doesn't work too try to select multiple elements using a crossing window then Check selection filter >> check the cut family then delete it

 

Ideally you should integrate the void cutting that beam in the same family as the sleeve...

The family's void doesn't appear to be cutting the face in the family, therefore is not the cutting element. It could be a By Face Opening (Architecture Tab). You should be able to hover over the hole in 3D and select the cut. I made some updates to the family in case you want it.

The family has all the potential of cutting structural members in the project but you chose to not to and instead, cut the beams using either Opening by face or one of Steel tab tools.

Build the hole into the Beam Family and associate the Void's Cut Geometry Parameter to a Family Types Instance Parameter that can be "activated" for the beam instance in the Project.  You can parameterize hole radius and inset as well.

If the sleeves are field cut I wouldn't do this.  What if there are more than one holes, at various (not array-able) points?  What if they need to be on the other flange, one on this flange, two on the other? But who knows. maybe @asaundersZX5X6 loves the idea and fly with it.

You probably right. It was just a suggestion based on the cryptic description provided by the OP.  If it's cut in the field, I would wonder why the family was needed. You can easily cut the beams in the Project. 

 

Anyways, that's my wad shot.

Dunno. Like I said; it's a cryptic description.  The OP said: "I created for 2" diameter sleeves and I deleted the sleeves however the beam is still being cut as if the sleeve is still there".  Based on this, it doesn't sound like sleeves are important.  In fact, it sounds like they are a nuisance.  😉
