Family Object Style - creating subcategories for imported objects

Hey everyone,

I am trying to create subcategories for imported objects within a revit family. I am importing .sat files from Solidworks and one object needs to be sectioned while another object needs to have pipe connections. Because of this I am using the generic family template. I am hoping to be able to change the color of the two different objects in all views in the family, and then have that carry over when I load the family into a project.

Thank you for your help!

Can you import them to different families so that you can assign different materials?

Thank you for the reply,

I tried doing that but when I apply the material in the object styles menu the material appearance doesn't show up on the model (I'm using the imported objects default subcategory). I can use the line color tab to change the color of the .sat model, but that doesnt carry over when I import that family into another family.

I need to have the 5 objects that I am using in a single family because I have defined them all off a single coordinate system, so when I import them to the same family they will all be exactly where I want them to be.

Thank you for the help
