Family elements visibility toggle

I created a family with a detail element but only want it shown in a certain view of a project. Is there a way I can coordinate that detail of the family to just a specific view/workset but toggle it off for another of the same project?

edit the family and select the element and open the VG settings. Then uncheck the views you do not want to see the item in ever.

Unchecking a box will mean that the item will never show in that view even if the you have a parameter associated with the "visible" field.

Then add a visibility instance parameter so you can toggle it off individually for specific families.

Visibility settings and visibility parameter would toggle the visibility on/off in all and/or multiple views. To toggle visibility in certain views, you need to use subcategories.

• edit the family
• Open Visibility Graphics (VG) / Object styles
• add new subcategory (example: Mutons)
• exit object styles 
• select the extrusion/sweep or whatever that object is
• in the properties panel set it to the new subcategory
• save and load back into project

in the project view where you do not wish to see the trims/muttons in one specific elevation; go to visibility graphics of that view and uncheck the subcategory

alternatively you could also use nested shared components for this objects and in the model use filters to hide them

I want the family to be on elevations views, however I only want the detail of the family to be on one elevation view. If I do this, it will change it for both elevations.

If you're drawing detail elements to represent the family, then you will need to use SYMBOLIC lines. These lines are only visible in a view of the same type of the one they were drawn - meaning: Only in a plan or front\back elevation, etc.

Once you create these elements, you can assign them to a sub-category

You can control that in the model
