Failed to print PDF Revit 2018

My Revit 2018 will not print to pdf.

"Creating Adobe PDF" window opens and looks like it is starting to process the print but then it freezes and the PDF file is never created.

I downloaded a different pdf creator than what I was using... have not had a single issue since...   Bullzip is what i am using now, works fast, and no hang ups... I dont have to jump through any special hoops.  Blue beam is another, but the price is high.. and the learning curve is steeper than learning revit.  I was using Adobe DC pro, but the Adobe just cant interface with Revit other than to view your pdf's.  Bullzip was no charge, and like I said.. no hang ups.

This issue is STILL present in Revit 2019, and I dont accept the solution that I have to install a new PDF creator in order to publish to PDF files.

Can someone at Autodesk please provide a reasonable solution that does not involve installing additional 3rd party software?  Better yet, can you please fix this issue that appears to have been present for several years.

Thank you,

Cathy Hill

The solution is to do a print preview before you hit print. Yes, it's an extra 3 clicks. Not that hard.

I completely agree that this issue is ridiculous and needs to be addressed but you don't need to download anything.

By the way, there is no native pdf creator in revit. Whatever program you use to create PDF's is a 3rd party software.

just wondering how to balance these two statements....

You know what I'm saying, boss. Adobe works. Just preview it first. No need to download anything else.

Are we balanced?

LOL... yeah were good... but you gotta download adobe at some point.  I was using Adobe DC Pro, but it would hang up and cause fatal errors constantly... I tried all the special pathways that were listed on this forum, nothing worked... and...even when it did work, it took forever to actually plot the pdf... bullzip is quick, and I have had no issues.

@georgehobel

There is a patch you can download from this thread for Adobe DC Pro to resolve the temporary freeze

(19.010.20098) is the patch version.

Let me know if this helps with your issue.

Regards,

Oh. I had not heard of it causing fatal errors. I wouldn't deal with that either. Everyone I've talked to in and outside my office has confirmed that doing a preview before printing alleviated the issue with Adobe PDF. To be honest I hate Acrobat and I think this problem is with Adobe's software, not Revit. I would much rather be working in bluebeam but we get Acrobat with our Adobe subscription. C'est la vie.

Also, are you the Black Dahlia killer?

No, that thread is dealing with a different issue but I tried the suggestions there to no avail. Also, the latest patch for Acrobat is actually 19.010.20100 which we have installed.

None of the proposed solutions worked for me. After a long time of frustration, trial and error, I found that the following procedure works, if done just before printing:

1) Close Adobe Acrobat

2) Go to task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and terminate the following apps: Adobe Collaboration Suite, Acrotray & Acrobat Distiller - sometimes they will be each one on a line on their own, other times you will have to expand the Revit line to shown them.

I just ran into this problem. The fix had noting to do with the PDF printing application. I had an invisible viewport in one of the sheets that always printed as a blank. Deleting the viewport solved the issue. No idea how that viewport got there. Left clicking and dragging the mouse outside the sheet boundaries can reveal if such a viewport exists.
