Extrusion Material of Nested Family Not Showing in Host Family

Only some extrusions in the nested family are not showing their material in their host family. Specifically, the front door panels of the nested cabinet family. 

I have attached the host family, and the nested family of interest is ..-CSWK-TYP-BASE CABINET

Any assistance is appreciated.

Weird. I had to delete it entirely from the Parent Family and load it again into the Parent Family to get it to work.  

...to be clear: I deleted it from the Project Browser.

Okay, that makes sense. Good work-around, but I was hoping for a logical answer as to why this might be happening.

Dunno.  Got corrupted I suppose.  It happens.  There were other errors upon opening. Maybe related.

Looking at your image got me to figure it out. The front doors were painted in the nested family.

When more than 1 surface of the extrusion is painted, it changes to core visibility of the extrusion to that of the paint.

Arrgh! I thought I checked that. Guess not.  

BTW: you can Paint Surfaces with Parameters. Did you know that?

I sure do! not much use for us now that painting changes the core material of these extrusions, but good tip for anyone else.

That's not true. Paint is surface only.

That's typically how it is, BUT with a NESTED extrusion, as soon as I paint more than 2 of the 4 sides of the extrusion, the core of the extrusion (along with all sides faces) will show up as the painted material in the host family.

You must be doing something wrong then.

This is how I'm testing this. Looking at the section cut in the host family, the core material changes when you apply the paint in the nested family to 3 or 4 sides.

Thanks for testing this as well. I believe if you now cut a section, it'll show the core to be the Paint Blue material. (if you've painted at least 3 sides)

These screenshots show that same EXTRUSION TEST Family being cut by a 3D Section Box.

Interesting, I'm getting a different result when 3 sides are painted. With 2 sides painted I get the same result as you, but I can't confirm if you've painted 3 sides from your screenshots. (I'm using revit 2022)

 5 sides are painted.  

Here's another screenshot for you...
