Exporting IFC files with space boundaries is not working as desired

I have a Revit model with 4 building blocks in it. I would to make IFC exports of the separate building blocks, with Space Boundary data. But I cant get it done in the way that I would like.

The way I would like to do it is to make a 3d view per building block, and in those views hide all building blocks but 1. And then export the geometry visible in that view, including Spaces and Space Boundaries.

As export settings under File > Export > IFC > Modify Setup, I do the following settings:

  • Under General I select Space boundaries : 1st Level.
  • Under Additional Content I select 'Export Only Elements Visible in View', and 'Export Rooms in View'.
  • Under Property Sets I select 'Export Revit Property Sets' and 'Export IFC Common Property Sets'.
  • Under Level of Detail I select Low.
  • Under Advanced I select Use active view when creating geometry.

When I make the export as such I get an IFC with spaces, but there is no Space Boundaries information present.

I also tried another method that is unfavorable but which did give me the right result. I made 4 duplicates of the Revit file, and in each file I deleted all building blocks but 1. Then I made an IFC export with the exact same settings as mentioned above, but this time from the main 3d view. This did give me the right result: an IFC with Space Boundary data. It will be clear for anyone though why this method is unfavorable.

How can I use the first method and get an IFC with Space Boundary data?

I did a test I can export Space Boundary of a portion of the entire model to IFC.  However, Space Boundary lines become Room Separation lines and Spaces become Rooms.

What I did is creating a 3d view and use section box to crop the view instead of hiding element manually.  And there is the one box you did not mention that I needed to check.
