Export Sheet List to Excel

What is the best way to export my sheet list to Excel and then load it back in? I have found there are several ways to do this, but none seem to work the way I expect. In the end, what I want to do is compile a couple dozen sheet lists from different Revit models, organize the thousands of data cells in a logical manner, renumber every sheet according to district standards, and then load the list back into one Revit model.

The first and most obvious answer is "export > reports > schedule", but this is a one-way function. I can export the sheet list, but I can't load it back in.

I also explored using Dynamo to change the sheet numbers directly. This worked to a certain level, but it didn't renumber linked sheets from consultants.

Then I tried looking for some add-ins. I found BIM One Excel Import/Export, which works by exporting a sheet list, editing the cells, and then loading it back into the same model. This worked very similarly to the Dynamo solution, it renumbered the sheets, but not the consultant's sheets. So then I tried bypassing the linking, by renumbering a consultant's sheet list and then loading it into the architectural model, but BIM One can only export/import to the same location.

I'm at my wit's end, do you see a solution? Is the answer some combination of the above trials? Is there a magic add-in that I don't know about? Please ask me some questions if my problem isn't clear.

Now that's all assuming there's a smart solution available. If all else fails, I have a dumb solution in my back pocket. I would go into each consultant and architectural model to export sheet lists to excel, modify each list individually cell by cell, save as a jpeg, and load the jpegs into one Revit model.

In a ideal world, you can link the consultant models in and set the schedule to include links so their sheets will show.  You cannot rename/renumber their sheets but you can add more parameters (fields) to furnish/replace information to the schedule, e.g. substitute the sheet number with a different field so that you can update them vie the Excel method above.

Thanks, there's another layer to this. The linked models are in three tiers, consultants-->building-->campus. Linking sheet indexes works across one set of links, but not multiple. So, consultant sheets can link to the building, but when the building is linked to the campus the consultant sheets get lost. I think this is because the "Include elements in links" is reading from the project browser instead of the schedule's text. This is why I attempted to use BIM One to get the sheet indexes to bypass the linking.

I do like your idea of making more fields to organize consultant sheets. I'm going to try that and see how far I get.

Are the consultants linked to the building as Attachment or Overlay?

They're linked as overlay. Is there a difference? Should they be as attachments?

Oh, I found the answer.

Hopefully this solves larger issues. Still some testing to do. Thank you.

Overlay links only exist in the first tier host.  I think that's why you don't get the consultants sheets in the campus file.

When I use the export tool, it does not give me the option to select a sheet list! It only lets me check schedules, view lists, etc. what the heck...

Have you created a sheet schedule in Revit yet?

Open it and Export > Report > Schedule.

Is this the method you use for the BIMONE plugin? I was clicking on the import/export button on the BIMONE tab as the instructions indicate. It will let you check what schedules you want to export but not a "sheet list" schedule. For example my door schedule is shown but not my sheet index

Thanks

I've since uninstalled BIMOne, but I was able to export/import sheet lists.

Here's a screen shot from months ago.

bimone.JPG

One issue I ran into with this program (and why I uninstalled it) is you can't edit/add/remove some cells you export. In the image below, the gray cells need to remain exactly the same when the excel file is loaded back to Revit. The reason for this is the Revit ID column on the left. If for example I were to add a row at the end and make up an ID number, when I load it back in, Revit won't understand the new ID because it didn't generate it, and the load would fail.

Sorry, this probably doesn't answer your question.

I'm having the same issue with Bimone. I have an option to export all schedules (and keynotes) but not my sheet list.

The best way is to stay working the data inside Revit. Check this out
