Export material properties to IFC

Hello

The latest versions of IFC export on Revit 2022 and Revit 2023.1 bring a new feature "export materials propertyset"

I did not receive to understand what this feature brings in addition. Before, when exporting IFC, the different material layers were exported as IfcMaterial for walls, roofs, floors.

What does this new feature bring and how does it work? Is it necessary to add IFC properties in revit ?

Thanking you in advance

I'm wondering if its for non-spatial elements and just "tags" the properties with the material. I'm not expecting it to actually save the color/texture/material patterns applied to each element. What is your goal with materials in IFC?

Hello,

My goal is to know what new information can I retrieve from the materials. I am not interested in colors, texture etc. Just to know what is exportable in terms of material properties in this update.

The option Export Materials Property Set in the latest versions of Revit just improves the way material information is exported to IFC files, providing more detailed information about the materials used in a construction project. This information can be useful for further analysis, simulation, and visualization.

As you said, textures, colors and finishes will be exported along with it.

If this helps, please do mark it as solution. Thank you.

I checked the box but I couldn't find the difference. Is it necessary to add IFC properties in Revit to export this new information?

@sofiene.dahakT3WWH yes it is required to add IFC properties if you need additional information in your export. Without that, you will get an export of the basic material information.

Do you have examples of properties to add in order to use this function?

Thanks

Material Type: Pset_MaterialCommon.Materia

Material Thickness: Pset_MaterialCommon.Thickness

Material Color: Pset_MaterialCommon.Color

I'm curious how your text file for "Export user defined property sets" looks like. Usually we use text file like:

PropertySet: BIP I IfcSpace
SpaceName Text Name
SpaceNumber Text Number

I' m not familiar with text you have sent above. Could you please guide me how to use your example of text file?
For your information I' m using "IFC4 Reference View" and check the box "Export material property sets".
