So we are having a problem with revit where the esc key does not work but it works everywhere else.  It is not an adobe product as we do not use those programs.  Any ideas?

We have exactly the same issue and it is also not only the Esc key but also the Delete key. Any updates on this subject? as the issue has been happening for years in different versions and it will not resolve itself nor the current answer is very helpful. Thank you

To whom it may concern

I have this issue 3 times a day now on the latest 2020 revit (20.2.2).

Autodesk, please provide updates on these glitches? Its been with us since 2013.

Regards

It is NOT solved. This is still happening, comes out to abut $20 a restart....

Interesting. I have never had such an issue going back the early part of last decade. I feel cheated.  Did you have to pay extra for that feature?

Good afternoon @Viveka_CD - Is there any update on this?

This issue recurs very frequently. Randomly my Esc., delete, CTRL Z, and  CTRL P, commands do not work. They continue to work in other programs.

Revit doesn't do random. There HAS to be a trigger. Find it and the solution may reveal itself.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

As a data point, this is happening to me as well.  I have used Revit since 2006, and it happened for the first time this week.  The escape and delete keys do not work in Revit.  No problems in any other program.  Running Revit 2020.2 on Windows 10 Pro.  Windows just did a bunch of updates about a week ago, but the problem presented itself at least a couple days after the updates.

We have had a user start experiencing this issue today for the first time. I updated all of the Autodesk products yesterday so I know Revit is up to date. The esc/delete keys work in other programs. The first time it happened this morning we just restarted Revit and it fixed it. It quit working 2 hours later and now we shut down his box and we will see.

In general, it happens to me more often, when I have firefox or other programs open in addition to revit.
Sometimes I fix it by closing those programs.

Using Revit 2020.2 and the issue still persists.  It happens seemingly randomly, but it is an almost daily occurrence and usually fixed by saving/syncing, exiting the program and re-opening.  It is a painful process on large jobs when syncing and model opening times can be quite lengthy.

Any update on the status of a fix for this?

I'm seeing the same issue in Revit 2020.2 at the moment with my escape/delete/CTRL keys working in other programs (Chrome, Outlook, Excel) but not Revit.

FWIW My delete & CTRL keys work if I'm modifying text in a text box, but not if I'm trying to delete the text box itself. When I hit CTRL+Z or CTRL+Y in a text box, it will expand the text box way down off screen after every few clicks before resizing the text box to its original size and returning to undoing/redoing commands.

This has also been an occasional (current) issue for me too. My current project sync time is 30min, restart 5-10 min and open project another 30min+ over an hr lost. I notice if I open a different view from the browser it clears the command that the escape wont. Frustrating 😞

I have this issue often and not sure why it is triggered, but there's a solution that does not require restarting Revit.

Select File > Options.

You should be able to close the Options window with the Esc key and Esc key functionality will be restored. I have no idea why this works, but it does for me.

Interesting, thanks for the tip!  I will definitely try this out next time the ESC bug happens!  Cheers! ✌️

I'm having the same problem (in both Revit 2020.2 and 2021, both versions fully updated); it affects the "Del" key as well as the "Esc" key for me.  Both buttons work fine in every software except Revit and are recurring problems that require restarting Revit.  I'm working on very large projects and restarting Revit several times a week is not acceptable as a solution.

The options menu fix doesn't work for me, escape works to close is but escape and delete still don't work when modelling - error sound and doesn't deselect objects etc All up to date, Revit 2020.2.5

I've been having this bug for years now and it is not really acceptable to have to restart every time it happens.
