HELP!  I keep encountering this error and I am not sure what to do.  I open Revit and after it loads I instantly get this message, "Autodesk Revit has stopped working".  I have tried all solutions found online.  Any other ideas?

Hi @hb903

Thanks for posting on our forum! Smiley Happy

The cause of this error message is due to the fact that the Windows Error Reporting system has determined that the application is no longer responding and presents the alert.

Please, follow these steps and retest the behavior afterward:

  1. Close all Revit sessions on your computer
  2. Go to Windows > Start > Search field and type %temp%
  3. Hit Enter
  4. Clear all instances in the Windows Temp folder
  5. Skip all instances Windows reports to be in use

If clearing the Temp folder does not clear the issue, there are two more approaches to track down the cause of this error:

  • Check the Revit journal file to see if it shows a problem prior to the error.

If the steps above do not lead to a solution, cleanly uninstall and then reinstall Revit

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question. Kudos welcome!

I tried everything above and even reinstalled the software.  It still gives me the same error message.

Hi @hb903

  • To make sure that the issue you are seeing is not something already fixed in one of the product updates, I would suggest checking the Desktop App to see if there are any Revit updates available. For information on using the Desktop App see the following article: About the Autodesk Desktop App

Please send me your journal file and System Information (NFO) file  I can send you a private folder to upload.

Software is up to date.  I have a Dell XPS 9550 that meets all the requirements as well.  Please see attached files for Journals.  Those are the newest files in that folder.

Thank you!

Hi @hb903

Glad to hear that your software is up to date and that your system requirements are all good!

Thanks for sharing your journals - I would also require your System Information (NFO) file

Also, do you get a CER number when Revit crashes?

We will troubleshoot and let you know for an update.

Thank you!

It it looks like that link for NFO file does not work... I also do not get any codes when Revit crashes.

Thanks again!

Hi @hb903

Thanks, I received all your files. We are investigating further for a resolution.

Meanwhile, can you try uninstalling add-ins which you may have recently installed and see if it helps?

Hi @hb903

I just wanted to follow up here, and check if you were able to replace the hardwareare?

Since it looks like you have a hard drive issue and decided to get a new computer- I am posting the reply from your case, to benefit others seeking similar solutions:

Revit is designed for a Windows-based system.  If you check out that AU Wonk's Guide link, there is an awesome handout PDF you can download.
