I have a 3d toilet and I want to center it between a line and a wall. 

If I add the dimensions and  click eq, the line moves and I don't center the toilet.

If I pin the line, I get a warning and the operation cancels,

 Reveal Hidden Constraints to see if some other constraint is preventing it.

Pay attention to the tool tip when you dimension to the toilet, the dimension should point to a reference plane (e.g. center left/right), not a geometry or a line.

ok but what if all I have there is a line?

You don't have reference planes in the toilet family?
