Elevation view lines printing grey PDF

Hi there,

I'm trying to print as a PDF a very basic A3 sheet which contains a basic Floorplan, 3D View and a South Elevation View.
However all of the line work in the Elevation view are printing grey, they should be black?

Print preview and printing on paper show up black, however all of the PDF printers are printing the elevation view lines grey. I've tried multiple PDF printers.
I've also checked that NO shadows, depth cue, sketchy lines etc. are turned on in the south elevation.
I understand that REVIT will print this sheet as a raster rather than vector due to the 3D view, yet I seem to be the only one in my class with this issue? What am I doing wrong lol.

If the 3D view is in Hidden visual style , no shadows, sketchy lines, then it can be printed as Vector.  Try it and see if the PDF will come out better.

My lecturer requires the 3D view as 'realistic'... if only it were that simple.

Surely there has to be some way to make the lines of the elevation appear black if it has to be a raster.

Maybe change the PDF settings to High or Custom Quality.  Below shows for AdobePDF but it should be similar for other PDF printers.

Just tried, it didn't work, thanks for trying 😞

I've tried printing the elevation view on its own as a vector and the lines are black, but as a raster own its own they are grey.
On the sheet even if I click vector processing, a dialogue box appears saying it has be to Raster processed (due to the 3D view) and they are grey.
I think it definitely has something to do with raster vs vector. Surely there is some kind of work around or something I've missed to make the lines black.
Other students sheets are printing fine?

You can right click on the 3D realistic view in the Browser and Save To Project as Image, set it to a pretty high resolution.  It will create a new View under Renderings folder.  You can place this view on Sheet instead of the original 3d view.  Then you can set the printing to print as Vector.

Sorry to hear that you are facing printing issues.

Which PDF creator are you for your prints? (Blue-beam add-in, cute pdf and bullzip are other PDF platforms you can try).

Please try the following options:

• Try setting to "Main Model" in design options when printing
• Are your active views are deactivated when printing the sheet?
• Check if  your print settings have"black lines" instead of grayscale. 
• If you have used surface patterns, In the Print Setup dialog, under Hidden Line Views, select Vector Processing.

• Try converting the revit model into a dwf format and then print.

  Check HERE on more information on how to export to dwf and best practices for printing.

  • What are your graphic settings (resolution)?
  • Can you try printing to raster instead? 
  • Replace the halftones with thin lines.
  • Revit 2015 software updates and fixes may need to be installed. Click HERE for information.
  • Look at the Adobe website to update the drivers for the application.

I just worked my way through your whole list, and none of those work.

I have tried Adobe PDF, Microsoft PDF, doPDF, and cute PDF.
Active views are deactivated, Graphic display options etc.
The sheet must be printed in 'colour' - for the 3D view.
I just updated and repaired REVIT 2017.
Still grey..

Hi Viveka,

Thank you. I solved my issue.

I ended up converting everything to hidden lines, copying and pasting into a new file, then changing the 3D View back to shaded and assembling on a new sheet.
I did check all of the display graphic options in the original, for whatever reason something in the original file was causing it to 'bug out', but this was fixed by creating a new file.

In the future maybe try turning off Depth Cueing under Graphic Display Options. I found this worked when reading of your issue, hopefully this could help you out if you ever run into this issue again.
