Elevation Graphics

I have lived with an imperfect graphics workaround for the past 10 years and I'm just wondering if anyone has a system that works perfect. This is about graphics for elevations. Ideally I'd like the graphics to appear like this:

Existing: Halftone

New: Black (not overridden)

Demolished: Dashed Lines

But without the following bugs:

Bug 1: The existing elevations currently need to be set to new construction phase. This is not ideal because components placed in the view come in on the new phase and aren't visible in the current view. Requiring hunting down in another view and switching.

Bug 2: As you can see, window openings are not bordered with the demolished line style in existing elevations. There should be a rectangle where the wall needs to be cut out for the new window shown dashed. And for some reason they are showing the wall fill dark and I have no idea why.

I have seen a lot of posts about this over the years but no 100% Solution. Has anyone cracked the code? If so please post your settings for all 3 of the tabs on the phases panel.

Excited for this!

I'm not clear what you are looking for from us. Sounds like you have a workaround that has worked for you for years - 10 years and throughout that time you have researched alternatives but found none.

I was just making sure I wasn't the only one that hasn't figured it out yet.

concerning bug 2 there is no bug your windows are dark becuse revit creates a temporary wall and since your exsting is half tone and your temporary is not thats why its dark.
when it comes to demolished you arent demolishing anything so there will no line style change what you need to do if you want it displayed as you describe is to override the line style on the temporary walls. would have to be done manually or by view filter on the temporary wall (use seperate type if you using view filter.).

#1 is not a bug. It's the way Revit works.

Elements take on the phase of the view that they are placed in, Revit 101.

When a view is set to the existing phase, existing is considered the new phase. Only in a view that has a phase after existing will elements on the existing phase will be shown with the graphics settings for the existing phase.

Revit can only do one timeline and this can be confusing until you get used to it.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

1. Model existing elements in a working view with the active phase set to Existing and phase filter set to Show All. The view with the phase filter set to Show Previous + New is not for adding existing elements, but demolishing them.

2. Share your test file here if this aligns with what you want.
