Drafting view type

Hi,

I can't change the view type of my drafting views...why?

Can you elaborate more...how are you not able to change the view type? If you mean Visual Style; drafting views have limited View Visual Styles Wireframe/Hidden ... the rest should be grayed out

I mean when I click on "edit type" and duplicate the type, it does duplicate but I can't apply it on my drafting view...

(The first arrow from the top on your printscreen).

When you have the view open and then on the Properties Palette click edit type >> duplicate >> give the Drafting view a new name >> click ok

It should be applied automatically to that view (You should see it on the title header of the properties palette - if it duplicates => it is applied)...to verify you can switch to project browser the Drafting detail should be listed under the new/duplicate (if the Browser sorting method you applied permits)

Example Below:

1. Drafting Detail 01 was on Drafting View: Detail
2. I open Drafting Detail 01 >> Properties Palette >> Edit type >> created duplicate of "Drafting View: Detail" and called it "Drafting View: Section"
3. Result: Drafting Detail 01 now listed under "Drafting View: Section"

Or are you trying to do something else?

Yes, that is what I am talking about.

Could you maybe record a screencast or post a screenshots similar to the above?!

1. Does it read the new Drafting View name on the Properties palette? (see image below)

2. If yes...did you try to apply it to the Drafting detail from there (ie: open Drafting Detail/view and select the Drafting view type from drop down menu)

3. If is not listed...Are you sure you are clicking Apply/OK instead of escape? - Because if it is not listed meaning it was not really duplicated

I don't know why but it seems like it is preset that it is creating a detail view when we create a drafting view.

And it automatically put it on type "Feuille A-0902". But we want to put it on "Feuille A-0706".

As you can see, this type exists, but when we want to change it, it just doesn't want to...It keeps the "Feuille A-0902" type.

@Anonymous   Unless you reference a drafting view when creating a callout bubble, you are just creating multiple live views of the model. 

To create just a drafting view you need to go to View Tab, Create Panel, select Drafting View.

Detail View is one thing ... Drafting view is another thing. However, a Detail View can reference a Drafting View and vise versa

What you have there in that image is a detail view (not drafting view). I am not sure you are trying to change the referencing view or you just want to place that Detail View  "Vue de Dessin: 0706-XX Elevation Croche" under the the subcategory Feuille A-0706

if you only want to list the Detail view "Vue de Dessin: 0706-XX Elevation Croche" under the the subcategory "Feuille A-0706"

1. with "Vue de Dessin: 0706-XX Elevation Croche" open
2. Go to Properties Palette >> Drop Down type Selector (what you have in that image)
3. Select Feuille A-0706

And it will be listed under that subcategory instead of Feuille A-0902

If you are trying to change the referencing view ... you need to do it from the Ribbon

I know all that but I'm telling you it's not working...it stays at "Feuille A-0902". That's what I was saying in my last post...

Besides, it is not a referencing view.

In the project broswer, it is clearly written "vue de dessin", which is drafting view in french. So IT IS a drafting view but with a detail view type...

I don't know why but when we create a drafting view, it automatically puts it on a detail view type. It's not refered to a detail view.

Now, that is why I'm here, because I am lost too.

I know and tried everything you said before I came here.

If you are

1. not creating the new drafting view from the menu
2. and/or not duplicating an existing drafting view from the browser

One can only assume that you are creating or duplicating an existing detail view that's why Revit is listing it under Detail View

If you can record a screencast (it's an Autodesk Application) maybe someone can tell better where the false step is (otherwise I am clueless ... sorry)

For my fellows frenchies !

I know this is an old topic, but I was in the same trouble yesterday with some clients of ours, scratched my head a lot, found this topic without anwser... I found a solution elsewhere on internet and drop it here so a future me in the same trouble can find the solution easily : 

French default template is ****ed in Revit 2015 and 2016 so the use of drafting view is a pain. If you use it, or base your company template on it, you won't be able to manage your drafting view. 

You should create a new project on an english version of revit from the default architectural template.

- BTW, To turn your french revit into an english one, just change the end of the .exe shortcut from"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2016\Revit.exe" /language FRA" to "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2016\Revit.exe" /language ENU" -

Create a new drafting view. Save you file.

Go back to your template/project/where you're in trouble, go to insert tab, insert from file, choose the first file you created, insert drafting view. It's okay now, you can duplicate Drafting view Type and it's correctly referenced as "Vue de dessin".

Unfortunately, it is still impossible to change the types of my existing "Vues de dessin", so my project will stay that way.

Maybe I am wrong and did it the wrong way, but it seems to be something you need to do at the beginning of your project and then duplicate.

But thank you!

It will be useful on a future 2015-2016 Revit french project (if there is one...).
