You mean a parametrically controlled inset like some OOTB Wall Hosted Families have?   You can build that capability into any Family you like fairly easily.

- Option 1: add the Offset dimension to the door family as an Instance parameter. 

- Option 2: place a curtain wall the same size as the door to cut the wall, change the panel to any wall type, place the door to cut the panel wall.  You can move the curtain wall back and forth however you want.

- Option 3. similar to Option 2, but use a curtain wall door instead of a wall and a regular door.

i figured that since the commercial ootb swing door has the parameter that all of the door would have it
