Door schedule help

Hi All,

I'm pretty new to Revit, so while I expect this is basic stuff, I'm having trouble with the workflows. I'm feeling my way, but I feel like I'm missing some crucial steps!

Basically I want to create a door schedule for all existing doors in a model. This schedule needs to include various information about the doors:

1) Various information about fire rating etc, which seems simple enough, I can enter this under 'Edit type' and it shows up in the schedule

2) A door ID number - this needs to match a reference number on the plan so that the user can look at the plan and the schedule and see information for, say, door 110. Doesn't seem like Revit tags can be scheduled so I'm using a parameter as below?

3) A column with details of door condition (eg good, average, poor)

4) A column detailing required replacement dates

So I have done the following:

- Using the basic door family in Revit as a template, I have created my own temporary door family for each type of door in the project. The ultimate aim is have proper families for each type of door.

- I have created some shared parameters, all of them text based (Door ID, condition, replacement dates, as above)

- I have added these shared parameters to each door family as instance parameters

- I am entering the data for condition, Door ID etc above by selecting each door in the model and manually typing it in to the instance properties.

The schedule that is created seems ok in terms of the information it presents but is there any better/cleverer/easier ways to better automate some of the above? Stuff like 'Door Finish' for the schedule I can't work out where it should get this information without creating another shared parameter and manually entering 'painted metal' or creating a new material etc and manually choosing it for each door.

It would be helpful if there was ways to colour code elements of the schedule automatically, ie doors due for replacement within 6 months, the text is red or whatever.

Yes. Fire Rating is a built-in parameter under Door Type.

No needs to add extra parameter.  Just use Mark for both the schedule and tag.

Use Comments parameter to enter this information and add it to the schedule.

Add an instance text parameter directly to the door schedule to enter this information.

Utilize built-in parameters as much as you can.  For information that only need to present in a schedule, add the parameters directly in the schedule instead of adding them in each family.  The only things you need to add in family are extra information need to be tagged that not in-built parameters.

You can use Conditional Format to change the appearance of schedule cells (fill color, not text color though).

Thanks both, very helpful. Conditional formatting looks to do the trick for shading certain elements.

Noted on using the built in parameters as much as possible. I'll continue to play around with it.
