Door Family visibility problem in project

Hello Everyone,

I have created a door family. I have used the "Sweep" tool to make the door frame. When I see the object in the plan view and Hidden lines mode, I see the right section from the door frame (Image 1). But when I load the family in a project, I can't see the correct section, as you can see in Image "2".
I made this frame using an extrusion tool, and the problem above did not appear. I would like to know how I can fix this problem with the Sweep tool.

Best,

Switch view to medium or fine and check other view to see if that changes anything...if it does then it would be the Visibility Settings of the element in the family...

Otherwise, attach the family it would be easier to check

Sorry since it was my first time creating a thread here I did not include the file. Attached you can find it. BTW the problem was not about the visibility setting.

Best,

It is Visibility settings .. you are selecting the wrong element (your frame is set to not visible in plans and RCP)

It is a nested family (Generic Face based) Edit it and make it shared...then it will be cuttable

AT the status bar .... there is a Bulb icon which lets you see  a preview of how the family will look like when loaded into model. This can help you identify more or less the elements which need attention

As you can see here in the preview mode the object looks ok. But in the project it is not the same as preview mode.

  1. Make it visible in Plan and RCP first
  2. Then Edit the nested frame family and make it shared...
  3. Reload into Window >>> Reload into project

refer to previous reply

See revised family.  I created the sweep directly in the window family for now.  If you want to nest the frame, maybe model it as a work plane/level based/always vertical family, not as a face based family.

Thank you very much. I think the problem was that the nested family was not shared. Because before this, I activated the PLAN/RCP, and it didn't work.

Hi @mahanmotamedi1991 ,

If you want to use a nested family which isn't shared, built the nested family from the "Generic Model" template and not the "Generic Model face based" template. The orientation screws up the cut functionalty in the Door Category family (also for Windows category).

Or use @ToanDN solution of making the nested family shared or model the frame directly into the door family.

Thanks for the clarification. BTW what exactly "Share" does in a family's template?

Making the family Shared allows it to inherit the properties of its category...Additionally, It allows the family when placed in the model to be accessible for

  1. being Tagged
  2. Scheduled and Quantified

In your case, you have modeled the frame as a face based GM. Usually one never choose to use a face based nested component randomly....Not sure why you did so the first place (I would assume you saw it in a tutorial). The alternatives (if shared component is not required) are

  1. either to simply model the sweep in the same window family
  2. or model it as a nested window family (same category as the parent family)
  3. non-hosted component (simple Generic Model)
