displaying masses in floor plans

hello, 

am working on a project of one level, i had created in-place mass earlier, this mass is supposed to be an architectural element of some kind hung at a specific height. -imagine shelves, or window lintels but not necessarily. 

my question is, is there a way to show that mass in floor plans? in a way as we do call it in manual drafting, as a hidden object/lines? 

i use revit 2018, and my OS is windows 10

-Make sure Mass is turned on in Visibility/Graphics in you Floor Plan View.

-Then, assuming the "mass" represents a window overhang which is above the cut plane, turn on an Underlay of the Level above ( Level 2 )--you might need to create a Level 2 or Roof Level if you don't have it already. Make sure to Underlay is set to Look Up.

-Then, use the Linework Tool to an pick the lines of the edges of the Mass, with "overhead" line style.

-Then turn off the Underlay off. The dashed lines will still appear, and if you change the Mass shape, the lines will automatically adjust.

In addition to the above suggestion, you can choose to Show Mass regardless of the category is turning On or Off.

Years after, i'm having the same problem, but it seems underlay only works if objects are not being cuted. So, how do we get the projection in plan of mass lines above the cut plane, like overhangs or openings projections? I tried with an in-place generic but have the same problem. Hope that someone can clarify this.
