DIMENSIONING site plans

I have been working with Revit for a few years now but have not used the tools to create site plans a great deal. I have been using the building pad and topo placement tools to fine the perimeter grading around my buildings and that has worked out fine. What I am attempting to do with less success is to dimension a site plan where I have used sub-regions to define parking areas and landscaped spaces. I expected Revit to allow me to dimension to the lines created on the edges of this regions but no such luck. Can someone provide me with a more useful method of adding dimensions for driveway widths, turning radius etc without adding more unnecessary lines to my project?

Dimensions will not recognize the edges of subregions on a topographic surface. There is not a way to place the dimension without adding additional lines or using something other than subregions to represent pavement, sidewalks, etc...

Thank you for your input. I expected that answer but it seems odd compared to the autocad world where all objects can be dimensioned.

I would agree it is strange, and i have never heard a technical explanation as to why this is. In fact just last night I was teaching site plans in Revit at a local college where I teach and mentioned this limitation. I still recommended using Revit for site plans to students for 2 reasons

• You can schedule (count) parking spaces.
• You can schedule (count) landscape plantings.

I remember my days as an intern Architect counting and counting parking spaces and planting symbols. That is not a good way to spend time.

as loboarch says , you have to use additional lines...

Anyway , there is a quick way to do it , even with this additional lines:

• in Siite Plan View, select Subregion >Edit Boundary >enter in Sketch Mode and put Dimensions
• still in Sketch Mode select the sketch and the dimensions > Clipboard - Copy
• exit from Sketch Mode
• Paste> Aligned to Current View
• select the boundary lines of the Subregion and convert Model Lines into Detail Lines - so not o appear in other views...
