dimension to group

Hi, I have a group of windows and doors. I need to copy this group along the facade. I cant dimension to a line within the group and control the placement. This is not only for window groups, but for all groups. Is it so, that you cant dimension to the group from anything outside the group?

Sorry people of the forum, I was too quick to post here.

I could not snap to an edge in the group, because I was working in a 3d view and not in elevation.
