Dimension Revit Family

Hi. I am trying to find out the length of a revit family after it's length is reduced when it joins with another element. In the picture, green one is the family that I am working with. When I join this with these two other elements, the length of the green one is reduced. I would like to find this reduced length and the original length using parameters while creating the revit family. But I am not sure how to do that. I tried reporting parameter. But no luck. I am still a newbie.

Create 2 ref planes 1 left and 2nd to the right and label them with an instance length parameters L1 and L2 (this way you would be able to align with the 2 elements left and right

Add a parameter length with a formula = Length - L1 - L2

Make it share parameter if you want to schedule

I am sorry. I am unable to understand the words label them with an instance length parameters L1 and L2. I have attached the reference level view of the green revit family. If you could say again slightly elaborately, It would be very helpful.

Is there a reason you want to keep the original geometry of the family?  If not, you can make Length an Instance parameter, stretch the family to fit the gap, and report Length in the schedule.  If you want to report a fixed virgin Length, add a Type shared parameter to the family and type the value directly in the Formula box and it can be reported in the schedule as well.
