Details in Revit

Hi,

I'm here to ask you about Details in Revit and what is the best way to make it.

So i'm gonna ask you questions about this and exchange our experiences about that.
1) What is the best, working in 2D (line by line as in Autocad) or 3D (directly from the model) ?

2) If Details are taken from the model, and if the project changes (levels, materials, structure of walls or floors, families...), what is the best way to not do the work again and again and not to lose informations after any of these changes ?

3) For the BIM process, we must extract all informations from the Model, so how you do to make details without working with 2D and not wasting time to make the model really clean ( Example : Informing anything by Tags not by Text )

I Have an example of two details, the first one is in 2D and everything is clean - the second one is in 3D and you can see we can't make everything clean in the model so we have to work by the Filled Region to make it clean )

Thank you for your quick answer, but don't you think that it's not really BIM to work with filled regions, especially when customers asks for LOD 300 and more ??

1) 2D is as important as 3D, find a balance between putting enough 3D data in the model for extraction of quantities and so on. But don't model to much, because your model will be heavy and it is labour intensive.

2) I don't understand what you mean, because when you have 3D elements visible in your detail view, they will change accordingly.

3) Detail items! You can parametrize them and tag. Next to that, work with cut profile and take a look at keynotes. Try to minimize the filled regions and detail lines.

Yeah, filled regions are dumb....detail  items with a filled region are smart!  Add in Keynotes to Spec Sections...even better!  You can have more detailed detail items of equipment without drawing a bunch of lines or even worse, drawing a bunch of lines and grouping them!  If you take the time to draw and group....draw it in a detail item so they can be tagged and saved.
