Detail Group behavior (pinned) in TitleBlock family

Dear All,

has anyone found a way to lock Detail Group to Ref Line in Titleblock, in the way the the group moves with parameter flexing? In my case the situation is totally offset - Detail Group seems to be "pinned" (in reality is not) and the whole titleblock family moves, when I change parameters. Trying to constrain two separate Detail Groups throws an "overconstrain exception".

Has anyone have solution / good workaround for this?

I use dimension to attach reference Line within the group to reference plane. Then set the dimension to 0 and lock the dimension.

But still, you can lock only one Detail Group, am I correct? Locking two separate thrown an overconstrain exception. When flexing Detail Group does not move, unlike everything that is around...

Are you trying to create a parametric title block?  Save yourself the headache and create one file per title block type.

It's been tried and tried and you spend more time getting it to work than just dealing with multiple files.

Are you trying to position something like a label parametrically? The secret is NOT to pull the Dimension between the label and a Titleblock element. Instead, pull the Dimension from a stationary Ref. Line.  In other words, the Label moves in relationship to the Ref. Line, NOT the Titleblock (which can't be done).  Place X and Y Ref. Lines at the Origin of the Titleblock (bottom-left).  

...Ah! I misunderstood what you are trying to do. Forget about it.  It's a futile endeavor.  @Anonymous is right.

Making Titleblock parametric is usually a trial and error. What I am noticing is titleblock seldom useful to create parametric if you have all the details lines in the titleblock. One way I find it parametric is create the titleblock with multiple generic annotation. Make sure all the families components have same common origin point. When you need to constraint it, use the dimension to highlight the reference plane and the symbols reference plane. Set it to 0 and lock it.

See the attached samples and hopefully you understand how it works to get your titleblock to work.

My family looks like this: I have many nested generic annotations (one for legend, one for map, one for main part of the header etc), and this is all working fine.

First problem I encountered is that Titleblock cannot have nested another Titleblock instance. There is set of parameters (mostly related to Revisions and ViewSheet that the Titleblock is linked to), and those parameters can only be displayed as labels. Labels cannot be locked. One solution would be to group label and ref Line, but this creates problems as described above. I have two groups: one with labels in the "main" part of the header and second in the revision part.

Having parameteric TiTleblock I would consider as fundamental...

Try this one - edit d1 and d2 values and see if the behavior is what you are expecting.

I use an imported DWG file as a kind of anchor for labeled dimensions.

• make a DWG-file with a horizontal and vertical line at the origin.
• import into Titleblock Family (origin to origin)
• untick Visible of importInstance

You can now use the lines in the importInstance as a "base" for (all) your dimensions.
