Design Options for Duplex Apartment Layouts

Hi, I'm relatively new to design options (previously avoiding them and their associated issues), but for this task I feel they may be useful.

Option 1 is to be 2 apartments, 1 per floor.

Option 2 is to be 2 duplex apartments.

In order for the additional stairs/shafts in duplex apartments, would I need 2 slabs as such; one solid in option 1 and one with the voids for stairs in option 2?

Or is there a way I can get the stairs to cut through a slab left in the main model?

Also, any other tips when working with design options?

Thanks

Treat design options as though they are separate models. Anything that changes from one option to the next, copy/paste from one to the other. Same thing applies to hosting elements (floors, walls, ceilings, etc.). If anything changes to any elements that are being hosted, make sure they are in both options. The only thing that is in the main model, are elements that are literally unchanged by the options.
