In the Apply View Template dialog box, the default option for View Type Filter is Floor, Structural, area Plans.  Is there a way to set the default to  <all>?

There's no way to set a different default value for view type filter. That value depends on the type of view that is current. For example, If you are in a ceiling view, the view type filter is Ceiling Plans.

This is a crippled dialog then. I use many templates on many types of views. Every time I need these templates I have to tediously click through the drop-down and find them.

Possible Autodesk Solution:

There could be a template setting called "View Type = agnostic", meaning my favorite universal templates that I use for Floors, RCP, and 3D views all day every day will show up in every category.
