Hello all,
I created a Central model and in the Options > File locations > default path for user files , I inserted the location that I want to the local files to be saved.
Each time that I create a local copy, it is saved in a different location than the location that I have put in the Central model. And it changes each time that I create a new local file.. Do you know what I should do in order to define this location and be unchangeable.
Thank you in advance!

The path for user files that you set in options does not apply to a particular Central model. It is the location for all local files. You cannot specify a different path for each model.
@Anonymous ,
As I have two different central models, how can I define the path for each local file that I create?
Thnak you !
Each users local file should be saved on their own computer - either a folder that is created on the C drive, or in the Documents folder. It is different for each user. The location that you set under options applies only to that user. There is no need for specific locations for different Central files. A new local file should be opened for each session. That is, do not open a project from the local file, but navigate to the central file and create a new local for each session. The local files that are created each time are used for an emergency, where the Central file cannot be opened. Clear away all the local files periodically.
@Anonymous ,
When I create a new local from the central file automatically, a back up file is created in a folder that I didn't decide. When I go after Option > File locations..and change the path nothing happens as if I save again the local file it is still saved in the initial path.
1. Can I move the local file in the folder that I want when I finish my work with it ?
2. So is it not recommended to work each time with the local file ? ' but navigate to the central file and create a new local for each session '
Thank you in advance!
Just to confirm - you are specifying the path "Default path for user files"? This determines where the local files for that user are stored for all projects.
You can move any of those files and store them elsewhere if you wish. They are all named, so they are easy to identify (unlike the back-ups in the journal files). However, each local file is a copy of the Central file, so the local file folder can become large and waste space on your local drive - this will eventually affect the performance of Revit is there is not sufficient free space.
Our protocols state that users are not to open their local files - these are for emergency purposes only. Every session is started by opening a new local from the Central and overwriting the previously created local. However, you can move these away if you think that you may need them.
