Cut the roof

Hi. I have created a roof by profile, but part of it enters the house. Is there a way to cut the roof that is entering the house?

Create "In-Place" family- create void extrusion and then cut the roof with that void.

I just figured this out for myself a couple of weeks ago... so easy..

After you have created your roof, use the "vertical opening" tool to cut the section of the roof that you dont want .

First go to the "Architecture tab and find the "vertical opening" tool as shown in the photo above.

After clicking the tool, click on the roof that is creating the problem.

Now use the project browser to get to a view where you know the roof is causing the problem.  Most likely, a plan view.

Here's the catch... you wont neccessarily be able to see the problem roof as you go to sketch the void.  You have to know where to place the "void sketch" based on where you know the roof is protruding. 

When you're done sketching, click the big green check mark, and the void you created will take the place of the roof that you were dealing with.

Hey, how do you cut simple roof (not extruded one) with void? Each time it throws "nothing is there to be cut" message.

As far as I remember, it is impossible. Maybe that spot will be occupied with some timber that can just mask out the unwanted area...

Create the void in place and cut the roof while you are still in the model in place editing.  Then finish.

One snag:  For a roof with multiple layers, the cut roof loses its layer visibility after the cut if the roof is only partly cut through.  For example, if you want to cut insulation out for a parapet wall, while keeping the roof deck, this won't work. Might as well edit the footprint and add the cut deck manually. I ended up creating two roofs, one for the deck and one for the insulation.
