Hi,

Is it possible to cut or remove a portion of a roof to allow for a box gutter to sit inside the roof?

Please find image attached.

I tried using CUT (geometry) tool but I can't get it to work.

Yes.  You can cut it by an in place void, or a family with void, or a shaft.

I can't do it....

I tried creating a void using Model-in-Place selecting a generic models. But it won't create. I get the attached error.

Cut the roof with the void BEFORE finishing the in place model.

It worked! Thanks for that.

But it seems a very convoluted way to make a cut in an object.

I tried cutting a roof with a column using CUT TOOL, but it does not work?

Is this the only way the cut tool can only be used?

Cut Geometry must be used with voids  or a solid mass. Join Geometry can be used with other solid elements. To cut a roof with a column, use join Geometry and switch join order if necessary.

A linear roof trench can be created by a line based or face based family that is stretchable. You nay even find one with built-in gutter component.

Model it the way it will be constructed.  That's always my fallback position.

...opening in "above" roof is created in the roof's sketch boundary (e.g. an inner sketch boundary within the outer sketch boundary).
