Custom Viewport Title - incorrect display

Ok, so I’ve created a custom viewport title, but it has some…curiosities…which I can’t figure out.

See the images below.

So as per IMAGE 1 its a simple title, just the view number in a box/View Name label/View scale label. The first issue is that if I line up the labels neatly in the family, when in use in the project the scale text is always offset slightly to the right. To combat this, I offset the label to the left so that when in use it displays correctly (IMAGE 2)

However creating a custom scale on a floorplan view (in this case 1:1250) causes the scale text to display where the label is actually located in the family, so when used in a project the custom scale is offset too far to the left (IMAGE 3)

I can’t figure a way around this, any thoughts appreciated!

Check properties of labels in your family.

Value of the Horizontal Align must be "Left". Take a look at attached file.

I've checked and the scale label is already set Horizontal Align Left.

After some more checking, the issue seems to be this: in a project the standard scale text does not display in line with the label alignment set in the family. However, custom scale text aligns correctly.

To confirm this, if I align the labels in the family view then in the project the standard scales are offset to the right - which is wrong. However, the custom scale (in this case 1:1250) aligns correctly!

A further test - the scale label in my drawing border family is also offset right, even though the label is set to align in the family view - but again, a custom scale displays correctly.

I am very confused!

Is there some sort of option or parameter I'm missing somewhere?

Yes, thats the conclusion I was coming to as well.....bit annoying. I'll re-design the viewport title so that it doesn't matter if the text lines through for now.

You can fix it by go to the scale list, click on custom, type in a standard scale value, for example 100, and check the display name box instead of leave it as default blank. Now your standard scales will show as custom scales and your view title will align correctly.

Sounds like a painful fix if you have a lot of view.  I would just add a Prefix to the label so that the alignment issue is not too obvious.

Thanks for the ideas everyone, they were helpful.

What I've done as a work around for now is when a custom scale is entered, in the scale display name put a space first.

So instead of [1:1250] it becomes [_1:1250] - This pushes the display name one space to the right so it doesn't matter that the text isn't meeting the correct label alignment as it looks correct.

Its a bit annoying - more so that I'll have to ensure the rest of the guys on my team remember to do this everytime as there doesn't appear to be a way to save custom scales down (don't get me started on that irritation, how hard would it have been to put a wider range of scales in the standard list Autodesk)

Oh and just to add to this, in case anyone has a similar issue - another issue is that once you have all your scale labels etc set up and you've instructed everyone to add a prefix space, shuffled your scale label in the border slightly etc so it all looks right when in a project....when multiple scales are used, Revit adds 'As indicated' to the border, and of course, its not in the right place. Also its lower case, which looks bad on our borders.

So I created a couple of instance parameters in the border called:

Border - Multiple Scales

Border - Scale off

The formula for Scale off is "=NOT([Border - Multiple Scales])"

Visibility of the existing scale label is set to 'Border - Scale off'

A new text object is created with whatever I want to display when multiple viewports are added - in my case 'AS INDICATED' in upper case, and crucially for me, the text object is located in the correct position on the border..

This text object visibility is set to 'Border - Multiple scales'

Voila, update my template with this updated new family and now I have a toggle in the border graphics panel to turn off the rubbish Revit default 'As indicated' and add my own in the correct position. The advantage being this text can say whatever I like.

Thank you for posting something about this issue. It was driving me crazy. It is good to know it is not just me.

This is still an issue in Revit 2021 it seems. I think the out of the box Revit scale names have an extra space in them. See the image below.

I think this is why adding an extra space to custom scale names solves the issue. I do not like having to misalign my labels in the View Title annotation family to adjust for this.
