Creating a hole in a ceiling based family

Hi i want to create a void type hole that is adjustable through parameters so that when my object is placed onto a ceiling it creates a hole through the center i have tried to use the void extrusions tool and the opening tool but when i place the item onto a ceiling it dose not create a hole through the middle

You could create a void (family) in your family without cut and select cut with voids when loaded.
(and then cut the ceiling in your project)

Draw an opening cut in the family .

That's the way to go probably. I'm not entirely sure why that didn't work for you initially... You should be able to add parameters while drawing the sketch... I'm not sure what parameters you want to add though, in the unlikely situation that you want to make some cuts at an angle or something you could do it with a void. ^^
