Hello to everyone,
I am currently trying to create a beam tag in revit 2018, but I aint been capable of doing it, mostly because in the process of creating a tag family for annotating the beams, there was necessary to input one value with the name "Shared parameter file" that wasnt necessary in the video that I have seen where it was explained how this would be done. The link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SeqKdB5_BU I do not know if someone know about this process...
Best regards
I didn't look at the video, but the process is fairly straight-forward:
Use a Parameter from your Shared Parameter Text File in your Tag Family
In the Project, create a Project Parameter that uses the same Shared Parameter that you used in your Tag Family, and then assign the Project Parameter to a Category -- in your case: the Beam's Category.
Now, select your Beams and enter a value into the newly created Project Parameter field.
Tag the Beam with your new Tag, and the Tag will "read" the value you entered into the newly created Project Parameter field for each Beam.
Any video where I can see better what you are saying? And where is my shared parameter text file? How can I create it?. Can you please help me out on this one?
Best regards
Go to the Manage Tab=>Shared Parameters and see what Shared Parameter File your Project is referencing. Is there one listed there? There should be. If so, look at the path it's using. That's where your Shared Parameter File is located. If nothing is listed in the box, then there is a "create" button which you can use to create one. But you don't edit the Shared Parameter Text File directly. Use manage it through the Project or Family.
I'll see I can locate a decent tutorial for you and provide you the link.
...an important note to make: Shared Parameters are identified (and "matched up") by GUIDs -- not by names. So, make sure the Shared Parameters come from the EXACT SAME SHARED PARAMETER TEXT FILE.
@barthbradley, thanks for the help. I now have another problem that is the group parameter doesnt appear... take a look at the screen. I think it was supposed to appear "beam" I think, at least is what I thought it would appear since it was what I have seen throught the video that I placed in here earlier. are you understanding this problem?
What information you want to show in the Beam tag that need to involve Shared parameters? Try utilize the built-in parameters first before going that route. And I heard a 10-minute video? Create a normal beam tag should take less than one minute.
Exactly like that, did you created the width, and the height parameter, like a new shared parameter or does it exist?
Also I like the way that you had put the line that is dashed passing throw the center of the beam, how did you create that?
Ps: I went to teh tab of the project parameters and realized that ther is not any "Structural Section and Geometry data". Also, I didn´t seen any parameter designated weight and height.
Bet regards
