Crash error- Revit has stopped working

Anonymous

Deleted and reinstalled Revit, but it won't run.

I get a crash when it tried to run:

http://prntscr.com/gf22lb

Thought I got a full installation this time, downloaded the three large files from Autodesk directly this time. Installed, and installed the various updates and add ons and it doesn't work.

Am on my last two days of the 30 day trial.

Any ideas folks?

It is a brand new installation just completed this morning. Isabella in Autodesk sales was able to help me get the 3 installation files by direct download links. Each take a half hour to download, and the installation process seems to take hours as well.

To complicate matters, after it installed, I updated it with the additional half dozen add ons and updates Autodesk suggested. Then another cad to bim add  on called Handaz.

I find this whole process emotionally draining when things don't work as they should. I am now home for the day.

Don't do the add ons. Not until you are absolutely sure that it works.

Hi @Anonymous

I understand your frustration. Yes, this is time-consuming!Smiley Sad

I was able to locate your case details (CaseNo:13331501)

Can you follow up with the specialist handling your case and also attach a journal to your case to troubleshoot further?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to check your system requirements for your Revit version, more information HERE

We had a problem with 2 autodesk addons causing revit 2018 to crash.  We (through my re-seller) contacted support who was able to confirm that P&ID Modeler and the Structural Precast addons were causing significant errors.

Autodesk support took both files and journal files from 2 separate workstations to confirm the problem.  Though they had no solution (yet) other than uninstall the addons.  Which was not a problem for me since we did not use them.

Darn. Will try to delete everything, and reinstall again tomorrow. Will also try to keep track of the journal files. Thanks all.

edit: just noticed the Windows Enterprise 10 note. I must have regular W10...

Only uninstall the addons. I would not completely uninstall revit yet, especially since you had already reinstalled it.

So remove the addons and the program you referred to as handaz then try to run revit. Then if it works install only the addons you need or want. One at a time, then run revit. See which one breaks it.

If it doesn't work after removing the addons? Well then your beyond my help and need to keep going with autodesk support.

Good luck.

Hi @Anonymous

Since you've mentioned windows 10, please look at this post HERE for a similar discussion and see if any of the recommendations help.

Looking forward to your reply update.

Thanks,

It seems that with Windows 10, Revit 2018 requires either windows Pro for $99.00, or windows Enterprise, and the Microsoft Store won't even list that price. Although there is a 90 free trial for Enterprise they recommend it be installed only by an IT Professional and there could be danger of losing data.

Management is balking at the extra cost and complexity, so we are going to try to uninstall and try an earlier version, such as Revit 2016.

That's the latest.

Enterprise is for large corporations and its a price point based on that.  You do not need to buy enterprise.

However you really should have gotten Pro, Windows Home is not for the office environment.  Mainly you lose all of your network capabilities, connecting to a domain / server, remote desktop connectivity, and group policy management.  If you are using home and managed to do that and are working off a server, i'm not really sure how you did it.

Again I'm not familiar with your office. Maybe you do not have a server... That's a whole different discussion that I don't really want to start here 🙂

That said... i just googled it and found where people said it did run on windows 10 home.  So i do not think that it is a windows 10 home issue personally.  But I have no real other solutions to offer you.  I would think that there would be a log of some sorts that would say why its crashing on startup, But support should know how to access that.
