Copy monitor question / Arch Standard

Currently working on a water treatment plant in revit (Asbuilt). I anticipate 3-5 models (Arch, Str, MEP, Process). I'm modeling all models starting with Structural. I am creating a Navisworks model at the same time.

I've just started my Arch model and Have copy / monitored structural exterior walls. How do I best model the arch walls that include Str walls?

I'm thinking to make new arch walls that "fit like a glove" over the structural walls, putting an airspace as a placeholder for the str wall. (I don't want two models meshing together in Navisworks.)

What is the standard here?

Not sure there is a 'standard' for this.  In my experience everyone tends to do things slightly differently depending on the specific drivers of their workflow.

From our point of view however we come across this on a fairly regular basis particularly on circulation cores.  Our solution is to use a granular wall approach so we effectively line the structural walls with the architectural finishes.

If you need to put doors, windows etc in you can copy monitor the structural walls and stick them on unique workset and then join the layers together so that the door cuts through all the layers - you will need to customise your family though to allow the frame to adjust to the overall thickness of the combined wall.  when you export to Navis you simply turn off the workset with the copy monitored items on it.

I know some people use granular walls all the time but personally I find them a bit too fiddly so I tend to restrict it to areas like this.  I should also add that I'm not a huge fan of copy/monitor either, it could really do with some serious improvements but so long as you are organised and methodical it can work okay.
