copy/monitor elements not updated

Hello all,

I have been working on an architectural project and a few days ago started figuring out the structural model as a separate project file, elements of which, like structural frames (columns, beams and floors) chose to copy/monitor. I have linked the architectural file to the structural one and vice-versa.

I changed a few things on the floors (architectural model) concerning the floors (perimeter layout and materials from the properties panel) however whenever I open the structural model, these changes are not updated. 

Note that any changes I apply to the beams and columns are automatically being updated, however. 

Any ideas on what am I doing wrong are much appreciated.

In order for copy/monitored elements to update, you need to do a "Coordination Review" on the link.

Hello, RobDraw and thanks for the rapid reply.

I tried using the coordination review button (the option "use current project" was greyed out by the way) and apply the review on the link but this did not really affect anything. 

The linked model (architectural) is OK. It is just the copied/monitored floors that need to be updated.

Are you sure the floors are copy/monitored from the Arch model into the Struct model?

It sounds like perhaps it is set up the opposite way?

The process that I followed was that I linked the architectural file into the structural file. Inside the construction file, I copied/monitored the floors. Then I linked the structural file inside the former architectural file. 

Is there possibly something wrong with that?

So--

You have:

Architectural File

Structural File

Construction File

(3) models?

You need to Copy/Monitor the Floors FROM the Arch model INTO the Structural File in order to see the changes in the Struct file that you made in the Arch file.

Then do Coordination Review in the Structural File to update the floors.

So you have two or three files?  I am confused now.

You need to determine which file rules the elements.  If the floors are structural then they should be modeled in Structural file and copy/monitored in Architectural file.

If fact, I would suggest not over-using copy/monitor tool.  You only need to have the structural floors as a reference from the linked Structural file.  Model your architectural elements such as floor finished above / around them.

Sorry for the communication breakdown!

So there is (1) one architectural model and (2) one structural model. no construction model. 

As a matter of fact, I linked the architectural model into the structural. Inside the structural model, I applied the copy/monitor option for the floors. Then I opened the original architectural model and linked the structural model.

I think you are doing the coordination review incorrectly. You need to do it in the model where you did the copy/monitor and do it on the link.

Hi there and thank you so much for the help. 

So as I said there are 2 models, an architectural and a structural. 

In the structural model, I initially linked the architectural file.

I am designing the steel structure and I will follow your advice designing the floors as well (they will be hollowed concrete slabs).

Then I should access the architectural file and link back the structural model (right?).

However, in that case, would the floor and walls interact with each other (especially as far as the sections and the connections details are concerned)?
