Copy Elements Between Revit family and project

Hi:

We all know this is an impossible task for Revit. I just want to give my opinion that this option will give us as users more flexibility and save us some more time.

Are you planning to include this option in future Revit versions?

I will appreciate any answer.

Regards.

Hi,

Welcome to the Revit Answer Day!

Thank you for your feeback.

Your ideas for product feature enhancements are always welcome.

I´d like to encourage you to post your ideas on the new Revit Idea Platform.

Make sure to include a short description about the current limitation ( a short but exact description of an example / typical situation where this bothers you when using the program ) and the suggested / expacted program behavior.

Regards,

Yes... I expected there was going to be an explanation or anything related to this limitation. I think I have not read enough in forums about this issue, so I just expected someone in Autodesk would really talk about this issue.

Your comment does not include any information about this limitation, that's why I don´t consider it a solution, then I thought just to leave it as it is for a solution or any other comments.

Thanks, Zsolt.

Hi Gilsoto13,

Ok... I see now.
I wasn´t sure if you wanted to talk about this in detail or just wanted to report it as a wish for product enhancement.

Can you please, give me some more details about a specific case where you are facing this challenge?

Regards,

Thanks, Zsolt:

I added an idea and an example, I have to say that I have not required this feature too often. But I guess it is a tool that many people will appreciate and use if it's available.

Hi there,

In regards to copying information from a Family to a Project the best method I found so far is:

  1. Don't use families in the project unless it's a repetitive element, it is not a good workflow.
  2. In your project file start a Model In-Place family - in Family Category and Parameters = (X) generic model (or else)
  3. In the family environment (the one you wanted to copy into the project) - change Family Category and Parameters to (X) as in the project file
  4. Copy 3D elements needed (leave lines and other family specific annotations etc.) (best to use Plan View)
  5. Paste 3D elements in the project file during the Model In-Place session (best to use Plan View)
  6. Edit Pasted Elements to align and rotate etc. to position.

I hope this workaround helps
