Convert from RFA to DWG

Good morning, Group.  I realize this has been asked countless times, but thought I'd ask in case there is a new software that will do the conversion.  A search of the web proved fruitless.  I have an object I downloaded from Brizo's website (bathroom hook model) that I need in DWG or other format.  I'd even be willing to pay for the conversion if anyone knows of such a service.  Thanks!

I don't understand where your problem is.

You can Export .rfa files to CAD.

Take care to make the export from a 3d view if you need a 3d model.

If you Export a Plan View, Elevation, Section , you will obtain a 2d CAD file.

The problem is I don't have the architectural edition of AutoCAD.

Do you have Revit? Or could you do a 30 day trial of Revit?

If by some odd chance my nattering was useful -- that's great, glad to help. But if it actually solved your issue, then please mark my solution as accepted 🙂

Autocad Architecture doesn't open RFA files either.

  • In which software you want to use the .dwg object?
  • If you have AutoCAD LT that has no 3d module( if my memory serves me right ) , you can load 3d objects but you are not able to edit them....

Thanks for all the replies.  I think I'll take one user's advice and download the trial.

Can you export the RFA file through AutoCAD architecture to convert to a 3D DWG file? Or do I have to convert with something else?

Have you tried a 30-day trial of Revit? You can export to DWG from this. I do it every day at work, since we are required to work in Revit but deliver in DWG and NWC.

So I can convert through Revit and then open it in Cad? Do you know if they
offer a discounted version for students by chance? I want to learn Revit
since it seems like it is the more common program in the industry, were
using AutoCAD Architecture 2019 in my Interior Design program now and they
don't offer Revit through the program I would have to take a separate class
on it in the fall. Anyway, a lot of blocks I've found and wanted to use for
my projects are RFA files. Is Revit easy enough or similar enough to cad
for me to teach myself?

Revit is Free for learning.

Do you have a School or a friend at school, uni etc they can get REVIT for free to learn.

Why is it such a pain to convert RFA files seriously?

I am on a Mac. I Don't have Revit. I work with Rhino, Blender...
I regularly import or make DWG, Obj, USD, FBX, STEP, IGES, IFC or whatever.
I render architectural scenes or object designs regularly.
But as soon as files are from Revit, I cannot do anything with them, except preview them online thanks to Autodesk Viewer.

Why can't Autodesk make a simple converter, or just allow it to be read outside of their proprietary software?
(I know I could also use Vectorworks or Archicad, but I don't need such big tools)

Thank you for your concern. Best regards.

Should Revit users ask Rhino or Blender to make a tool to convert their file format to Revit? No because it is an unreasonable request.

You are probably right. Autodesk is somehow the leader in this industry so they do as they please.

1- RFA is the standard BIM format, or that's what autodesk aspires to.

2- 3Ds max is Autodesk and I can't import BIM models natively?
