Sorry, I did a search for this and only found it asked but couldn't find an answer.
Maximum Backups is set to 3, but there are 36. As far as I understand it, Revit is supposed to overwrite the oldest backup files, so, I should see .0034, .0035, .0036, but I see .0001 - .0036. What's the deal?
Revit Makes a copy of the old and saves the new. The numbers Increment.
Therefore, if you set the max backups to 3, then after the first three backups, .0001 will be removed and .0004 will be created for you. next .0002 will be removed and .0005 will be created....and so on.
yes... as stated, I understand what is supposed to happen, but that is not what is happening. I have backups .0001, .0002, .0003, .0004, .0005, etc., through .0036. Revit is not overwriting the existing backup files.
Is it a workshared model?
Try using Save-As the model once with less backup files option set then hopefully Revit will clean up the older ones itself. I think they are set at 20st. at default, set it to 2st. or so, depending on you're own backup setups (time/location).
Hi @ballch49ZUG,
Maybe 0004-0036 weren't cleaned up when setting the backup nr.
Do any of the 0004 and up have newer dates than 0001-0003?
Try to resave the model with the same name and set the backup to 4 or something, all others should then be deleted, if not there's some reason they couldn't be deleted...
