Combined Parameters Keep Disappearing From the Schedule Fields

I created a combined parameter a while ago that looks somewhat like thisDESCRIPTION Format.PNG

so that our overall build of materials list will look like belowCapt.PNG

First off, our company is fairly new to Revit; in fact, my team is considered the guinea pigs to this software so if there is actually an easier method for creating hundreds of build of materials, we still don't know and are always too pressed for time to really get a chance to learn (such as learning Dynamo). So far this is the quickest method I could figure out with the little time we have between each submittal.

So my issue is that after creating my combined parameters, if I or anyone else in my team needs to alter the filter or sorting options in the schedule, the combined parameter I created will completely disappear from the schedule. What is going on, I don't understand how messing with one area of the schedule completely alters another?

Wild guess: You're unchecking "itemize every instance".

No, it's already unchecked to combine the quantities so we do not mess with that box as it's exactly how we intend it to be formatted. The only thing I edited was what items I want to be filtered for each specific schedule since we occasionally need to add new elements to the project. And the time before that when this issue occurred I changed the "Sort by:" drop down list.

But even if I had checked or unchecked "itemize every instance", why would that affect what's created in the "field" tab when it's a part of the "sorting/grouping" tab?

Yeah, I'm not really sure. It was a wild guess like I said. I know that combined parameters are not filterable or sortable, and that's caused me issues in the past if I was combining Instance and Type Parameters.

Thanks anyway, I just redid it like I've been doing and reapplied it to a schedule template. Thought using a template and leaving the filter unchecked for individual modifying would prevent this, but it seems to still glitch.

Using a template?!! Well, that explains it!

...not a glitch.

I say it seems like a glitch because it was doing this before I even decided to use a template. It was taking way too long to go through each build of materials page and recreate the combined parameters over. At least with the template, I just have to redo it once and reapply it to them all at once. It's just frustrating the fact that I have to recreate the combined parameters at all. It then still means that I have to go back and readjust the size of each one to fit in the pages accordingly, I was only able to eliminate a small amount of repetition with templates. Smiley Frustrated

Got it. I feel your pain, @dgreen.  Sh*t happens sometimes.  That's why God invented beer.  Smiley Wink

...thank god.

Editing Filter and Sorting (in template or not) is not a problem here.  Something else is going on.

Sorry but I didn't provide any solution. It was just a test from my side.
