Changing imported file material in Object Styles does not work

Hi all--I have been trying to import a file from Sketchup 2017 into Revit 2020 with the ability to change its materials. I saved the file as a Version 8 with each layer having a texture and all groups and components exploded.

Moving it into Revit, I did Insert → Import CAD → File Type: .skp; Colors: Preserve; Layers: Specify. In the Consistent Colors visual style, it looks like it recognizes the different layers with different colors.

I then went to Manage → Object Styles → Imported Objects tab and changed the materials accordingly for each layer. However, none of these show up with I render. Any suggestions moving forward? Should I import a different way? (I have Rhino so I could import and .3ds or .dwg or ACIS)

I'd Import as DWG.

Post a screenshot of your Object Styles' Imported Objects Tab.

...you could use the Add-in IMPORTSKP in AutoCAD to open the SKP there and then load it into Revit.

Thanks for the suggestions! I loaded it in from AutoCAD and applied materials in Object Styles. Now it renders as transparent.

Renders transparent? Might be an issue with the 3D View.  Maybe corrupted.  Try recreating the View.

Thank you! I recreated the view to the same result unfortunately.

Did you do any of the troubleshooting steps described in the Link I posted above?

I tried it as a dwg per barthbradley's suggestions.

Open the drawing, select a surface and see if it is in a proper layer.

Same here. Doesn't work in Revit 2021.  Can only change in visibility graphics not in object styles.

If materials are assigned to layers under Object Styles > Imported Objects and they still do not render properly:

- set the view to Show Complete.  Does it work?

- If no.  Open the DWG and see if elements are assigned to correct layers.

Not applicable

I have tied a lot of things and also tried the solutions mentioned here. But still doesn't work.
I am attaching the file here. It was made in skecthup and exported as dwg. I have ensured evergything is on layer as I want, but revit doesn't apply materials via object styles.

Can anyone please review the attached file and tell what wrong I am doing?
BTW, I am trying it in revit 2020 version.

Hi, came here because a problem in importing .obj files, opened your file although i'm not confident with unknown files, the stairs are not "user friendly" to use, thousands of polygon meshes, i think some of them are overlapping, others seems to be in the incorrect layer, a dwg file is not supposed to be like this. The only thing i did is set their color also by layer. Opened in Revit and applied Revit materials and it worked, except for the balaustrade, i think this happens when the normals are facing inside, i don't know if there's a way do inverte them all automatically. Exploding objects is never a good way of solving anything (in my opinion). Consider make a new stairs in revit, even with model in place they will be more perfect. I'm an average user, so maybe advanced users may help you better. Regards

I had a similar issue. I figured out that the material and color in AutoCAD was not set to ByLayer. Maybe that's it?
