Changing an existing Revit Project's coordinates

Hi.

I am looking to change an existing Revit project (with it's already established base points and coordinate systems) to match an Architect's Revit project.

I have the .dwg survey drawing that the coordinate system for the Architect's Revit model was generated from and assume that I need to link it to the existing Revit project, but I'm not sure of the next few steps and which way to insert the .dwg.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks,

Danny

PS. I am aware that when starting a project you link the .dwg, rotate it as desired, then 'acquire coordinates'. However because the project has already been created, with it's own coordinates, I can't quite work out how to change them.

Can you Link the Architect's Revit project into yours, and Aquire Coordinates? ( not sure if you have access to the Revit file?)

Hi Cliff,

I do have access to the Architects project.

How would I insert it into the other Revit project? "Link Revit" then place "Origin to Origin"?

Thanks,

Danny

Yes--Link Revit, try Origin to Origin and see where it comes in, in your project.

Once you have tried that, post back and we'll go from there.

(Next step may be to Aquire Coordinates from the Arch. model.)

Thanks Cliff,

I'll try it tomorrow when I'm back in the office (8am BST) and let you know.

Danny

You don't "change" the existing coordinate system to match the incoming link. You position the link inside the host coordinate system and "publish" that  position to the link. Basically, you are giving the Link driving directions to be able to navigate back to the exact same spot (and orientation) it was in previously.   Hopefully, you don't get the: "in 500 feet, make a U-Turn" error upon reloading.  I hate that.

Hi Barth,

I'm sorry but you're going to really have to spell this out for the layperson like me.

How would I 'position the link inside the host coordinate system'? That sounds like I have to move and rotate the linked project, which doesn't sound right...

Please advise further, I'm starting to feel I should be giving Revit the U-turn message and run away haha.

Thanks,

Danny

maybe this screencast that I've made an year ago can help you a little...

The survey coordinates a specific to my country , but I don't think that this really matters...
