I need to do a detail on a joint for my company, the detail is just a hexagon with a letter in it with a leader pointing to the joint. We've tried making our own annotation family, but the text does not seem to be annotative and sometimes doesn't even load in. I came up with an idea to create a detail family of the joints and just adding a tag (tag by category), which would be more efficient, but now I am struggling with the hexagon shape that should surround the tag. I noticed that the tag shows a picture of a hexagon, so it should be possible, but our hexagon has the flat edges top and bottom. Can I do this and could someone explain the method?

It's been three weeks since you posted this, have you resolved the situation yet? Hopefully you have.

The lines surrounding the text in annotation families, like your tag family, are just that, "lines". The label element is separate and assigned to a parameter to display the corresponding information.

When you sketch the boundary lines you are doing so with a final printed size in mind. The label size is also defined based on a printed size...both regardless of the scale. Revit adjusts the size of the tag family to maintain it's printed size regardless of the scale of the view it is placed in, ensuring it will always be the correct size when printed.

It is possible to make the boundary parametric to allow for different sizes but it is also possible to have a fixed size in whatever shape you sketch.

Thank you, this confirmed my findings. I played around with it and found out that it stays the same. Managed to create what I needed.
