Change Associated Levels to the proper ones

In my project template there are a bunch of levels that don't have the "right" associated level. I would expect that the associated level be the name of the floor plan view I'm looking at. How can I change that to be accurate

Video explanation attached.

You can't change the Associated Level. You could rename it, but I don't think that's what you are asking. Assuming you have existing Levels that aren't associated with a Plan View, go to View Tab=>Plan View=>Floor Plan and create one.

If it is a big deal then you have to recreate the floor plan view from scratch and choose the correct level.  However, if they are existing views that don't affect scheduling then you might just live with it.

The could effect scheduling. How do I ensure this doesn't happen in the future? What's the 'proper" way to have each associated level paired with the actual level?

Make sure users understand you don't create levels by duplicating a view. A view's association with a specific level is fixed, can't be altered. So if someone needs a new "floor plan" for an existing level they can duplicate an existing floor plan view that is already associated with that level. If they really mean they want a new level/story for the project that's a different tool, Create Level.

Duplicating a view associated with Level 2 and renaming it Level 1 does not change anything but the name.

So, what may be occurring it that when, whoever developed this template created new levels they simply duplicated a view. In my project file there are 3 states and views associated with each state.
1. EX - Existing Floor Plans
Ex-basement - Associated Level = EX B.O. Basement -CORRECT
Ex-Level 1 Associated Level = EX LEVEL 1 -CORRECT
Ex-Level 2 Associated Level = EX LEVEL 2 CORRECT
Roof Associated Level =ROOF -CORRECT
2. Demo Floor Plans

DEM-Level 1 Associated Level = LEVEL 1 -INCORRECT
DEM-Level 2 Associated Level = EX LEVEL 2 INCORRECT
3. New Floor plans

NEW -basement - Associated Level = EX B.O. Basement -INCORRECT
NEW-Level 1 Associated Level = LEVEL 1 -INCORRECT
NEW-Level 2 Associated Level = EX LEVEL 2 INCORRECT
Roof Associated Level =ROOF -INCORRECT

It sounds like I should just have one set of levels that everything works off of, but when I'm scheduling certain things it feels like things get messed up. Meaning, I don't want to be scheduling the demo of certain things in my "EX" view.  So that would mean I would have 10-12 view states 1 for each phase, and across 3 phases and 4 floors. That seems like a nightmare to keep track of.  What am I missing here?

Phasing has nothing to do with the Associated Level of the View.

What does this mean?

Not literally autodesk's phasing, but I'm referring to the phasing shown in the project browser with various states of the project, phasing floor plans EX, DEMO, NEW. Those are the phases I'm referring to.

Means when I'm creating a schedule for Demo it's looking at an "Ex" Existing view when it should be looking at the "Demo" view. I know this probably isn't easy to follow on messaging.

Schedules don't look at views.

They can look at Phases though.
