Cave using import from Blender

I am looking to create cavernous spaces underground which are populated with built elements (floors, rooms etc to be built inside).

I have so far managed to make a test cave space, with a cave like tunnel attached, in Blender. This is a surface that creates a hollow space. When imported into Revit however, a section box through it shows it as a solid.

How can I use the mass from Blender as a void to cut out from another mass (to create the hollow cave underground effectively)?

Thank you for any help.

I don't think you will be able to do this with a "surface plane" and Revit's default "ground". You would have to make a solid shape big enough to encompass the "cave". If the cave can be brought in as a Mass, you may be able to use it to Cut a block and form the interior cavity?

i did this with a solid In Place block and a Void Mass.

Thank you for your reply Howard. I understand your work around to this, if I cut a void inside the imported mass however, I will lose the internal shape/texture of the cave (which is why I modelled this element in Blender).

It is interesting that when no section box is on, you can see inside through the tunnel, but as soon as section box cuts through, it shows as a solid.

what i was saying was if you can Import the blender file as a Mass, then use that mass as a void to cut the block.

Not sure if you can import it as a mass though.... ?  I don't know a lot about Blender 😉

Could you bring the Blender File into FormIt and convert it using FormIt, and then bring it into Revit?

just throwing out ideas 😁.

Thank you Howard for your help!

Utilising FormIt in between has resolved this! Exported to a compatible file from Blender. Import into FormIt. This allowed it to be exported as a dwg which achieves the result I was looking for. When the section box is used, the inside of the 'cave' can now be seen.

Thank you 🙂
