Casework - cost per square meter

Hi, 

I'm trying to add a formula that works out the cost of my casework per meter (i.e: Casework cost per meter = £500, 5 meters of casework = £2500) 

How do i do this? Any help would be much appreciated

Assuming that you are going to add this information into a Schedule - 

Create a Shared Parameter for Each Casework Length (Length, Dimensions), Number of Casework (integer)  and Cost (currency, or maybe Number with two decimal places))

Add  to your project parameters. Associate with Casework

When you drop the Casework into the project, you can enter the length and number manually into the properties

Create your schedule - add Casework Length to your schedule fields

Add a calculated parameter - 

(Casework Length/1)*Number of Casework*Cost

You title says square meters yet your post says (linear) meters. Please clarify.

Sorry, I mean't linear! 

I was trying square meters at first but i think linear would be simpler just forgot to change title

This help page shows how to create a calculated values in a schedule. The embedded video shows calculating number of people per area, but the process to do a total cost based on linear distance would be similar.

A Parameter allows you to tell Revit what to do. A shared Parameter allows you to give the same instruction to multiple items like families, schedules, tags, etc

You set up Shared Parameters in the Manage tab. This will write a TXT document that will store all your Shared Parameters

Then you will add the Shared Parameter to your Project.

Manage >> Project Parameters

This will bring up a dialog box. Select Shared Parameter, navigate back to your Shared Parameters.Make sure to associate correctly - At the right side of the dialog box is a list of elements that the parameter can be associated with. You can associate a parameter with multiple items. Accept. Whatever you have accepted will show up in the Properties for that item.

When you go into Manage>>Project Parameters, you will see the Shared Parameter that you have just added, ready to use. Combine both of my posts. Great wisdom shall be yours. Good luck!
