Thanks barth, no difference sadly. I'm so stuck. I spent all weekend trying to select lol.

It looks like you modeled it all as one floor... The edit boundary option shows on top when you select it.

Is it a Link?

...it looks like you are selecting it in the view - and it looks like it is behaving like a shape-edited compound-layered floor.

I think it used to be, though it is not showing in the manage links tool. Upon initial opening it was stating several links. I selected detach. Here is Google Drive to both the original & my newly detached models. I think it is a merge of several models.

When I opened the file initially it was telling me

Again, select the floor and hit the edit boundary button. I am betting each of those areas is going to have its own purple boundary line that pops up.

Sounds like you detached the Link. It wouldn't be in the Project - unless you mean you Binded the Link. If so, the Link would have been converted to a Model Group.

...actually, what you "Detached" were Worksets.     Regarding Links: there is no reference to them, so they weren't loaded - unless you Binded the Links as I mentioned above.

Thanks Barth, I'm not sure if I detached from the original model; as it was stored in OneDrive, or if I detached the link.

It is behaving like a group, but I researched ungrouping items & it can't be a group because I'm not getting a context menu of group.

I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything relating to binding as I think that's more to do with the draughtsman whom generated the model. I'm just a servant whom received the model.

Dead right sir, any ideas on what's causing this & how to rectify?

What would be the best way to move forward with linked models. I'm an Estimator & tender large projects; the models will always be linked.

Post the file. We'll beat it into submission. You don't mind getting it back all bloodied and bruised; do you?

Seriously though, post the file. We'll figure it out.

Its not a matter of it being linked. Whoever made the model created all of those floors at once rather than creating them individually. Just tell them not to do that I guess.

Thanks barth, I uploaded both prior & post detachment in msg 6 via Google Drive as so big.

EDIT - definitiely to do with links. I received a newer model today, & opening this time detach from central is automatically selected when opening; maybe because of OneDrive & slow access as wifi is down & using my mobile as a hotspot atm.

I can't open it from Google.  You can post it here directly if you want to.  As an Attachment to a Reply Post.

....if need be, compress it. But NOT with WinZIP.

It's over 155MB compressed so too big to be hosted on-site; surely you know how to download from Google Drive dude?

I don't know if there are other issues you're having with links, but this behavior with the floor is absolutely just how it was modeled.

Thanks, I'm a sub-contractor & the design-team will never redraft a model to satisfy a sub-contractor so that will never happen.

This appears to be the problem atm with BIMM. Sub-Contractor's are completely at the behest of how the data is generated. It will always be imperfect. Now surely I have a way to edit this. Explode items/ whatever.

It depends on what you need. Do you just need the area of each section? The quickest way at this point would be to just draw a filled region over each portion. But you could also remodel each portion if there's something else you need.

They may not make the change now, but it probably wouldn't hurt to at least point this out to whomever made the model. Hopefully they'll use better practice in the future.

What's the endgame here?  Looks to me like that you are able to select the floors in your video. Can you Copy/Paste Aligned?  If so, can you complete your task with the Copy?
