Cannot save this document because Color Fills are calculating.

Hello, I have looked around on the forum but I don't seem to find anything, so I don't know if it is a problem of my own.

I just updated to Revit 2016 R2 and I keep getting this warning that says "Cannot save this document because Color Fills are calculating" every time I try to save. The same happens when I try to print, that it won't let me, but, oddly, it does let me syncronize. I have tried waiting for the color fills to finish calculating, but it never does, not even leaving it for over an hour, so the only solution I have found for the moment is closing Revit, reopen it and try to print quickly before the color fills start calculating again.

It is very frustrating and time consuming to do this every single time I have to print a PDF, so if someone could please help me out here I would really much appreciate it.

Thank you ver much.

With the 2016 R2 update I had the issue no more. Have never had it in Revit 2017 though. Maybe try updating to a later version if any

Hi. I am having this issue with 2018. I need to save!!

I have the same issue in 2018. The only difference I can save via the save reminder dialog, however if I just click save I get the warning dialog. I cannot sync as well.

So maybe a possible workaround:

  • Change the save reminder to the smallest possible value (15 mins)
  • Work and/or wait until the save reminder appears
  • Save
  • Kill Revit from task manager
  • Restart Revit, open the last local and sync with central

I ran into the same issue. What helped me was getting out of a view that has the color calculation. Go to a different view that has no color fill. Close all your views and give it a couple of minutes, then you should be fine to save.

Hi Ahmad, I just ran into this problem as well. What helped me was turning off the color schemes in my plans. When I tried to turn off via View template Revit crashed, so I created a new View template without the color scheme (by duplicating it in the VT manager) and then assigned it to my views. Of course this is temporary solution if you need the color scheme on. Try to do that, save, and then Audit... Good luck!

this problem is still occurring in Revit 2021.

Its says colour fills calculating are the reason it wont save but the background processes are shown network calculation calculating also. Let this run overnight then had to crash the file and loose some some,. Same this happed today again. Turned off all calculations for piping systems, so what else could be calculating. No duct being used. I do have plenty of colour fills which i may have to get rid of.

I turned off all pipe calcs and colour fills and this solved the issue. Its not the solution i wanted but its what i had to do.

It has put me off using colour fills in future.
