Cannot delete or modify element (furniture family)

The issue I have is this: I cannot delete a furniture family item which appears in our furniture schedule; this item is not in the model (option to 'Highlight in Model' is greyed out in schedule), none of its parameter can be modified. Has anyone come across this issue before / any ideas?

What happens if you delete it from the Project Browser? Do you get a warning/error? 

...you can always filter it out of the schedule. Still, if schedule is reporting instance of it, those instance must exist.  Maybe as Nested Families?

It sound like you may be reporting linked file data - could that be the case? I think that if it's a nested family the highlight option would still work. If the family name is not listed under Furniture in the Project Browser then it's definitely a linked file condition.

No, no warning; it still shows up in the schedule, can't be found within purge menu.

Uncheck "Include Elements in Links" on Schedule "Fields" tab. Does it show now?
